Forest Bathing Walks
“In the stillness of trees, I am home.” Wendell Berry
I feel at home when teaching among trees. I have been doing so since 2018, when I joined the “Active Forest” programme at Bedgebury Pinetum. I now specialise in teaching in green spaces because I love it and the benefits are huge – we can boost the immune system, lower stress levels, reduce blood pressure, improve sleep and raise our spirits by hitching a lift with nature!
I offer guided Forest Bathing Walks in various locations in Kent and Sussex, on a 1:1 private or public group basis. The sessions help people develop the practice of Shin-rin Yoku, the Japanese art of taking a slow, mindful walk with nature to support mental and physical health. Each gentle walk is designed in synergy with the seasons. It invites us to slow down and become closer to nature by increasing awareness and cultivating a sense of ease, using simple mindfulness techniques. All of which can be used in daily life.
Suitable for adults interested in a gentle approach to feeling happier and healthier in a natural environment. No special equipment or previous experience is needed to join a friendly session – just a love of nature. We will be using woodland paths, off the beaten track so a good level of mobility will be needed, together with warm, waterproof outdoor clothing and footwear.
